New Publication - Mitochondrial AOX1a and an H2O2 feed forward signalling loop regulate flooding tolerance in rice

Rice mitochondrial AOX1a can convert harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS) into H2O2 when the mitochondria are subjected to adverse stresses. AOX1a and H2O2 regulate each other, regulating glycolysis and fermentation downstream to produce ATP, the development of root aerenchyma, and the development of lateral roots, which are important mechanisms leading to rice's tolerance to flooding. AOX1a can enhance rice root development and photosynthesis, thereby increasing yield. The results were published in Q1 Journal: Plant Biotechnology Journal (2025),  doi: 10.1111/pbi.14504.
